About Colva Beach
Colva beach is almost 2 kms north of Benaulim beach and
is situated 39 kms away from Panaji. It is a part of the main
stretch of southern beaches of Goa. It is one of the most popular
beaches of Goa, known for its calm and serene atmosphere. Since
Colva is one of the lately known beaches, therefore it is less
crowded than its northern counterparts. Colva is the best place to
laze around and look for interesting books.
A peaceful location for spending calm and quite holidays. Thus,
Colva beach maintains the title “The queen of beaches in India”.
Major Tourist Attraction
Fama of Menino Jesus
The Fama Of Menino Jesus is celebrated on the third Monday of
October every year, it is among the most popular festivals of Goa.
The festivities starts at eight in the morning and ends by nine in
the evening. On the Fama day, the divine image of infant Jesus is
specially brought down from the left side altar of the church, for
public viewing and umao (kissing). The priest along with the statue,
hurriedly passes by a long and virtually unending queue of devotees
trying to touch the statue.
Nightlife
Colva beach has an alive nightlife. Late night parties at beaches
are regular stuff.
The Beach Bonanza
The Beach Bonanza fair is held on every Sundays from mid-April
onwards. Enthusiastic visitors from all around the world participate
in live music, dance, and other entertainment.
Beach Activities
Shopping at the trinket stalls, Dolphin watching, fishing, and
walking along the beach are some of the activities that visitors
look forward to.
Getting There
Air: The Dabolim airport is 68 kms away from Colva beach.
Rail: The nearest railway station is at Karmali, which is 40 kms
away from Colva beach.
Road: There is a frequent bus service between Colva and Margao. One
can also take a bus from Panaji, which is 33 kms ahead.
Accommodation
Accommodation is not a problem in Colva, but it is always better to
book in advance.
