Of the various monuments of Karnataka , Gol
Gumbaz is an ideal example of architecture and engineering
brilliance. Located in the city of Bijapur, Karnataka, South India,
this architecture was the creation of Yaqut of Dabul. It was built
in 1659. This massive structure has a unique feature. Its specialty

largest dome in the Islamic world.
Gol Gumbaz an engineering feat of the architect Yaqut stands second
in size to St. Peter's Basilica in Rome. This dome of 124 feet in
diameter is recognized as the second largest dome in the world. This
fabulous dome is standing without any support. To say it so, this
dome is not supported by pillars.
Popularly known as whispering dome this fantastic structure has
stolen many hearts. Its excellent acoustical system has enabled it
to carry even the feeblest whisper across the dome. It is famous
that the whisper created here returns nine times big to listener. In
fact the acoustical system is so strong that the tick of a watch or
the sound of the paper can be heard over a distance of 37 m in the
whispering gallery. Not only this, it boasts of four fascinating
minarets. These minarets are actually the four staircases which lead
to the top dome.

excellence always create an overwhelming impression on the mind. The

Being in this beautiful Gol Gumbaz you can also see a mosque, a
Naqqar Khana, a gateway, a dharmashala and a museum.
