South west of Jaipur, Ajmer is an oasis wrapped in the green hills. Ajmer is a distritct of Rajasthan. Ajmer Rajasthan located in the sympathy of the desert of Rajasthan, Ajmer is a blend of Sufi culture and Hindu religion. The city was founded by Raja Ajay Pal Chauhan in the 7th Century AD. and continuous to be a major centre of the Chauhan power till 1193 AD. It then become a part of the Delhi Sultanate. particularly famous is the Ajmer Dargah Sharif-tomb of the Sufi saint Khwaja Moinuddin Chisti, which is equally revered by the Hindus and Muslims. It is a center of society and education, the British chose Ajmer for its prominent Mayo College a school exclusively for Indian nobility.
At the foot of a barren hill, is situated India’s most significant pilgrimage center for people from all faiths. It is the splendid tomb of the Sufi saint Khawaja Moinuddin Chisti more commonly known as Khawaja Saheb or Khawaja Sharif of Ajmer Dargah. The shrine is next only to Mecca or Median for the Muslims of South Asia. The shrine comes alive with activity when millions of devotee throng the shrine during Urs fair. Urs is held on the seventh lunar month according to Islamic calendar and is variable according to the solar calendar.
Climate- Pretty hot in summers and becomes green with first rain as all its small mountains become green, in winters temperature is chilled. |

Adhai-Din-Ka

A remarkable organization, this is a work of genius of Indo-Islamic architecture located on the outskirts, of the city, just beyond the Ajmer Dargah. As the celebrity goes, its construction took two and a half days (Adhai-Din) to complete. It was originally a Sanskrit college, built within a temple. In 1193 A.D. Mohhamed Ghauri conquered Ajmer and converted the building into a mosque by adding a seven arched wall in front of the pillared hall in just two-and-half days (adhai-din) and consequently the name. |
Nasiyan (Jain Temple) :
The red temple is a Digambar Jain temple which has a double- storey hall contiguous to the main temple, housed large impassive figures portraying the Jain concept of the world, located on Prithviraj Marg, this Digambar Jain temple was built in 1865.Jain Temple is situated in Ajmer India. The hall is ornamented lavishly with precious gems, gold and silver. Jain temples are the richest in India and their splendour surpasses Mughal architecture at its best. With marble as the central theme, Jain temples boast of amazing finesse apparent in intricate carvings particularly on ceilings and pillars. Jainism continued to make its subtle impact even during the Mughal rule, with the only difference being that at times Jain temples were built on the lines of a fort with a high wall surrounding the entire complex. |

Dargah :
The shrine is in honor of Khwaja Moinuddin Chisti - a Sufi saint who came to India from Persia in 1192 with Mohammad Ghori's invading army. He died here in 1236. For the Muslims of India, the shrine's magnitude is only second to the sacred shrine at Mecca. The Dargah is approached through a massive gate with silver doors built in several stages. The saint's tomb is in the centre of the second courtyard and the actual tomb inside is surrounded by a silver railing and partly by a marble screen. The tomb is of marble and dome is gold plated. The atmosphere inside the shrine is charged and supernatural with burning of incense and offerings of flowers mainly rose and sweets. The construction of the Dargah was started by Altamash, the Sultan of Delhi, Mughal King Humayun completed the construction of the shrine. |
Ana Sagar Lake :
In a valley surrounded by hills lies the Ana Sagar lake, an artificial lake which was made in the 12th century by structure a dam across the river Luni and named after the then ruler Anaji Chauhana.Ana Sagar Lake is a best tourist palace in Ajmer India. The catchments were built with the help of local populace. The 'Baradari' pavilions was built by Shah Jahan, to facilitate his long stays in Ajmer. the Baradari and the adjoining parks are the lungs of city and favourite outing spot.The Daulat Bagh on the banks of the lake has a series of white marble baradaris (pavilions) built by Shah Jahan in 1637. However, the lake dries up in summer. |

Taragarh Fort :
Constructed in 1354 A.D., the Taragarh Fort in Ajmer is a impressive illustration of Rajasthani building. Six imposing gates and a thick crenellated wall guard the entrance to this previous Chauhan bastion. You are welcome to explore the royal secrets of Taragarh though a section of this massive arrangement is not open for public viewing.
See the awe-inspiring Bhim Burj i.e. a massive battlement on which rests a large canon and admire the huge stone water reservoirs built within the fort. The main doorway that leads you to the fort is ornamented with stone sculptures of elephants. The fort also has Miran Saheb ki Dargah who was the governor of the fort and laid down his life in an encounter. Taragarh Fort was an important center of services activity during the Mughal domination in Ajmer. Later during the British profession of Ajmer, Taragarh was used as a sanatorium. |
