The only hill station in Rajasthan, Mount Abu huddles among the rocks on a1,220-m granite table mount at the far southwestern end of the Aravalli hills. It is built around a lake and is surrounded by wooded hills. According to a celebrity, the place derives its name from Arbuda, a serpent who descended to the spot to rescue Shiva’s bull, Nandi. Mount Abu is also well known for the famous Dilwara temples and many more archaeological remains. There are interesting treks and picnic spots, romantic royal retreats of the various erstwhile families of bygone Rajputana and some relics of the Raj period. The scenic landscapes include enormous blocks of rocks in weird shapes, an array of coniferous trees, flowering shrubs, lovely lakes and the cool climate much in distinction to the arid environs of the state. Among the flourishing ranges is the highest point of the Aravalli is the 'Gurushikhar' with a vast sanctuary that shelters a number of species.

Gaumukh Temple
This shrine derives its names from a natural spring that flows through a sculpted cow's head. It is located around 2 km away from Mount Abu and is invented to be the very site where Vashishtha performed his yajna or fire sacrifice. The temple of Arbuada is situated at the same place along with a beautiful marble picture of Nandi, the bull who was rescued by the mighty serpent 'Arbuda'. Carved out of a rock, the hill temple of Arbuda lies alongside a picturesque back drop. |
Dilwara Jain Temple
Mount Abu is recognized the world over for it's magnificent Jain temples. Built sometime during the 11th and 13th centuries, these exquisitely carved temples are dedicated to the Jain Tirthankaras. These temples are the greatest draw of Abu, apart from its salubrious clime. Half concealed by mango groves their sober exterior belies the wealth of their interior embellishment. With door casings, pillars, architraves, and sculptures on porticos, the temple is a fine specimen of craftsmanship. The Vimal Vasahi temple dedicated to the first Tirthankara was built in 1031 AD and is the oldest of all them all. |

Adhar Devi
Temple
Carved out of a huge rock, this temple draws a huge number of pilgrims and tourists. The Adhar Devi temple is situated at a detachment of 3 km to the north of the city. The temple is built on a rock cleave and one has to crouch under the rock to enter the temple. A flight of 360 stairs lead to this beautiful temple that is a classic example of its architect's artistic prowess. This temple committed to Goddess Durga is regarded as one of the important pilgrimage sites of Mount Abu. This is also a good site to get a panoramic view of the valley |
Sunset Point
Enjoy fabulous views of the sun setting over the hills at this accepted tourist spot located a few minutes away from the Nakki Lake. There are many rocky seats on the hills, from which calm and delightful scene of the setting sun could be expediently seen, on the plains beyond horizon. Sun Set can also be seen from the Guru Shikhar - the highest point at Mount Abu. From this place, thousands of feet down in the plains the charming sight of distant places, villages and beautiful green valleys represents very attractive atmosphere. |

Shri Raghunathji
Temple
Dedicated to Shri Raghunathji, this temple houses a beautiful image of his that dates back to the 14th century. Situated near the ‘Nakki’ and was placed here in 14th century A.D. by Shri Raman and the famous Hindu preacher. |
Museum Art Gallery
This porch showcases a rich collection archaeological findings that date back to anywhere between the 8th and 12th centuries. Located at the Raj Bhawan, it was a collection of archaeological excavations It also has Jain bronze carvings, self-assurance works etc. for viewing. |
Nakki Lake
Nakhi is a very ancient sacred Lake, according to the Hindu legent. It is popular spot for boating and the only artificial lake in India that is 1200 mts. above sea level. It was so called because, it was dug out from Nails (Nakh) of Gods to live in, for fortification against the oppressions of Bashkali-a wicked demon. It is an Artificial Lake surrounded by hill of aravali range. The green hills near the lake, date-palms and Gandi Ghat garden enhance its beauty. The ashes of Mahatma Gandhi wre immersed in this Holly Lake on 12th Febryary, 1948 and Gandhi Ghat was constructed, with green lawns, multicolored flower beds and gushing fountains, in his memory. |
Toad Rock
Overhanging the Nakki Lake, so called because of its likeness to gigantic toad about to leap into the water. Abu abounds in grotesquely shaped rocks which often resemble animals and even on occurrence human beings. From here the beautiful and fine view of the whole valley looks very fine. Beside Toad Rock, there are also Nun Rock, Nandi Rock and Camel Rock because of their resemblance to these figures. |
